A rainy evening engagement session in German Village, Columbus, Ohio is proof that romance lives in the in-between moments. Maddie and Mike’s session was filled with cozy coffee dates, quiet laughter, meaningful locations, and dancing in the rain. From Stauf’s Coffee to The Book Loft, every stop told a piece of their story—one rooted in love, travel, and a shared appreciation for slowing down and being fully present together.

Maddie & Mike's Engagement Session In November

Stories, Words, and The book loft

German Village wasn’t just a beautiful location choice—it held deep meaning for their story. Maddie and Mike got engaged while on a cruise, sharing the moment together on a bridge in Germany. Choosing German Village tied their engagement session back to that unforgettable memory, adding another layer of intention and nostalgia to the evening. It felt like honoring where their story turned a page.

One of the most personal parts of the session was our stop at The Book Loft. Maddie loves writing and reading stories and is currently working on her own novel, so wandering through the shelves felt incredibly fitting. We visited her favorite sections, capturing quiet moments between the stacks—hands tracing spines of books, soft smiles exchanged, and the calm intimacy of sharing space surrounded by stories waiting to be told.

Why German Village Meant So Much

We began Maddie and Mike’s engagement session exactly how they love to spend their time together—at Stauf’s Coffee in German Village. Coffee is a huge part of their everyday rhythm (especially for Mike, who casually drinks six to seven cups a day), so starting the evening there felt perfectly them. We tucked inside for a bit, warming up, sipping coffee, and letting the rain fall outside while they relaxed into the moment. It felt less like the beginning of a photoshoot and more like the start of a quiet date night.

A Session Rooted in Meaning

This rainy engagement session was a reminder that the most beautiful photographs often come from simply letting moments unfold. Coffee dates, meaningful locations, shared passions, and dancing in the rain—all woven together into a story that felt deeply personal. Maddie and Mike’s session was romantic, real, and perfectly imperfect in the best possible way.

As the evening went on, the rain never let up—but neither did the joy. Maddie and Mike danced in the streets, laughing freely, completely unconcerned with wet clothes or perfect hair. Those moments were unposed, spontaneous, and full of life. They were fully in it—together, present, and wrapped up in their own little world.

Dancing in the Rain

When we finally stepped back outside, the rain softened everything. German Village glowed under the overcast sky, and Maddie and Mike spent the entire walk talking, laughing, and giggling without ever thinking about the camera. There was an ease to them—hands brushing, shoulders leaning in, conversations flowing naturally as we wandered the brick sidewalks and quiet streets.
